I bought the TEKTON 71953 25-Foot by 1-Inch Tape Measure after my Stanley Tape Measure literally fell apart. The Tekton feels more compact than the Stanley. It’s lighter in weight, with a plastic and rubber housing instead of metal. The tape measure fits nicely in my hand and the rubber makes it sturdy to grip.
The markings are easier to read than most tape measures. Fractions are written out every 1/8″. Graduations are 1/16″.
I like how the thumb lock can control the rate of retraction.
This product has a lifetime replacement guarantee, but the tape measure must be sent back to the manufacturer with the original receipt and return postage prepaid. That’s something to consider. It’s not worth the money and hassle for most people. I suspect Tekton is aware of that.
Even so, I like this better than the Stanley. I’d buy it again.
UPDATE: Tekton Tools has responded that they have a new lifetime guarantee: “. . . our warranty policy has recently change and it is not yet updated on all of the packaging. The new policy is if the product does not meet your expectations, we will replace it or provide replacement parts free of charge.” To clarify, I asked about shipping, and they said we don’t have to worry about that. Tekton Tools will take care of it. All the more reason to like their tape measure.
