Star Wars: 30th Anniversary Collection Volume 11–Union
by Michael A. Stackpole
I love Star Wars novels, but I don’t normally read comics. The reason I picked up Union is because I wanted to see Luke and Mara’s wedding and this was the only way to do it. I was afraid it would be too syrupy. Yes, it was sappy, but I enjoyed it. Luke gets tons of teasing advice from his friends, which I loved. Mara could have been a little less girly, but I liked her. She and her girlfriends beat the heck out of some guys at slingball, and Mara single-handedly took out an assassin. Still, there was too much concern over a dress.
As for the drawings, I thought Leia could have been done better. They gave her such droopy eyes. Luke looks good until his wedding. That hairstyle just didn’t suit him. Mara was pretty. Han looked like Han. The cover art is lovely, with deep rich tones . . . and such passion. Luke needs more of that.
The captions were easy to read and follow. I was afraid it would be difficult, but I didn’t have any problems.
The storyline about the former Imperials was fine, but the outcome wasn’t too believable. Really, I couldn’t believe it.
Overall, I did find myself immersed in the story and I’m glad I bought it. This will be a nice addition to my bookshelf.
