There are so many things to like about this pill Ivation Automatic Pill Dispenser:
1. It has a lock that opens with a key. We don’t have to use it, but it’s there if we need it.
2. The pills advance according to our schedule. We can program it to advance once a day up to four times a day.
3. There are three alarms to choose from or we can disable them and just look for the flashing light.
Once the alarm sounds, turn it over to dispense the pills and the alarm automatically turns off.
Programming is not intuitive. If you have an elderly patient, it would be a good idea to have someone set it up for them. Once that’s done, there’s nothing else to think about.
I’ve been using this pill dispenser every day and I like it. The only problem is the alarm setting. On my first unit, it worked and then quit. It continues to rotate and dispense meds, but it doesn’t sound an alarm. I got a replacement which does have a working alarm, but this alarm cannot be changed nor disabled.
I believe setting the alarm function is essential for many patients. They either will want it or not want it, and not being able to change it either way will pose problems. Therefore, I will give it three stars for being partially defective. However, I do like this pill dispenser. I have another one that is similar in design but it only has a clock and alarm. This one is much better.
